Intercom alternative: 5 honest options for your store (2026)

By Ezra Klijnsma, founder of NousuNousu is one of the five options below. Read critically: every price carries a source, and the Intercom entry says who should stay.

Short answer

The best Intercom alternative for a store depends on your setup. Intercom prices per seat plus $0.99 per Fin resolution and is built for SaaS support, so store actions need integration work. Nousu is an AI agent for Shopify and WooCommerce that executes order lookups, returns, and refunds for one flat monthly fee. Gorgias, Tidio, Zendesk, and Siena fit other cases.

First, a fair summary

What Intercom actually is

Intercom is a strong support platform, and Fin is one of the best AI agents on the market. Intercom publishes Fin's rate plainly: $0.99 per resolution, charged only when a conversation resolves. Fin can also run standalone on top of an existing helpdesk. If your support looks like a software company's, Intercom is a serious tool and this page will not argue otherwise.

For a store, two things push people to look elsewhere. Intercom is built for SaaS, so order status, returns, and refunds need Procedures wired to your store before Fin can touch them, which is engineering work. And the cost has two independent axes: seats grow with your team, resolutions grow with your volume. A store that just wants WISMO, returns, and refunds handled ends up paying for machinery it does not use.

The options

Intercom alternatives, honestly compared

Each entry carries a real weakness and a source for every price. Where a tool is a better fit for you than Nousu, the entry says so.

1. Nousu

Our productFlat-fee AI agent

Nousu is our product, so read this entry as the vendor talking. It is an AI support agent for Shopify and WooCommerce stores. It answers customers and does the work: live order lookups, return labels, and refunds within approval rules you set. You run it in copilot mode per topic, or flip routine topics to autopilot when you trust it. EU data residency, GDPR.

The honest weakness: It is not a full omnichannel helpdesk. If you need phone support, SLA workflows, or a large app ecosystem, the established platforms have years of head start there.

Pick this if: You want customer questions resolved and store actions executed without a per-ticket or per-resolution meter, or you run WooCommerce and want it treated as first-class.

Pricing: Flat €29, €79, or €149 per month, sized by conversation volume (150, 500, or 2,500). Going over a bundle never bills overage: the busiest month costs the same as the slowest. 14-day trial, no credit card. As of July 2026, per nousu.chat/pricing, July 2026.

2. Gorgias

Helpdesk AI, two meters

An established ecommerce helpdesk with deep Shopify integration and a large app ecosystem. Order data sits next to every conversation, seats are never metered, and the AI Agent ships on every plan and closes routine questions on its own.

The honest weakness: Two meters run at once: the plan meters tickets, and the AI Agent bills per resolved conversation on top, at a rate not on the public pricing page. The invoice grows with your sales curve and peaks in November.

Pick this if: You are Shopify-first, want a mature helpdesk with a big app ecosystem, and have modeled your November volume on both meters.

Pricing: $10 per month for 50 tickets, then $0.40 per extra ticket; Basic $60 for 300; Pro $360 for 2,000. AI Agent billed per resolved conversation at a rate not published publicly. As of July 2026, per gorgias.com/pricing, July 2026.

3. Tidio (Lyro)

Widget bot that answers

Accessible live chat widget with the Lyro AI add-on. Quick to install, low entry price, works on Shopify and on WooCommerce through the WordPress plugin. Lyro answers frequent questions in multiple languages and does native Shopify lookups on Growth plans and up.

The honest weakness: Lyro answers; it does not act. Nothing in the published feature set covers processing a refund or changing an order, so the actual work stays in your queue.

Pick this if: You want a cheap widget and answers are enough, and you do not need the AI to execute order actions.

Pricing: Plans from $24.17 per month (annual billing); Lyro AI from $32.50 per month for 50 AI conversations, roughly $0.65 per conversation at entry volume. As of July 2026, per tidio.com/pricing, July 2026.

4. Zendesk

Enterprise platform

The mature suite for large support organizations: routing, SLA management, reporting, phone, and integrations with almost everything. If your support org counts dozens of people across teams, it belongs on the shortlist.

The honest weakness: Three meters for a small team: seats, a per-agent Copilot add-on, and AI billed per automated resolution at a rate Zendesk does not publish. Ecommerce depth comes from marketplace apps, not the core product.

Pick this if: You run a large support org: multiple teams, complex routing, SLA requirements, and an ops person to own the configuration.

Pricing: Suite Team $55 per agent per month (annual billing, US list). Copilot add-on about $50 per agent per month. AI agents billed per automated resolution; the list rate is not published. Third-party breakdowns put it between $1.50 and $2.00 (Macha, eesel). As of July 2026, per zendesk.com/pricing, July 2026.

5. Siena AI

Enterprise agent, behind a sales call

Ecommerce-native agent with a strong reputation for brand voice and end-to-end automation, sold through a demo process with managed onboarding and dedicated Slack support.

The honest weakness: A $750 monthly platform fee lands before the first ticket is automated, and the final quote sits behind a sales call. WooCommerce is not supported; third-party reviews list Shopify and Fulfil as the platforms.

Pick this if: You are a larger DTC brand on Shopify with the volume to dilute the platform fee, and you want a managed partner rather than self-serve software. Our full read is in the Siena review linked below.

Pricing: $750 per month platform fee plus $0.90 per automated ticket; final pricing customized via sales. As of July 2026, per siena.cx/pricing, July 2026.

The structural difference

Seats plus resolutions versus one flat fee

Here is the shape at 500 resolutions in a month for a two-seat store, with sources. Intercom prices in USD, Nousu in EUR.

Intercom: the two axes

Seats start at $29 per seat per month on Essential (annual billing), so two seats is $58 before any AI. Fin then adds $0.99 per resolution: 500 resolutions is $495 on top. That is roughly $553 in a 500-resolution month, and both axes move independently as your team or volume grows. Store actions still need Procedures built first. As of July 2026, per intercom.com/pricing.

Nousu: one flat fee, store actions built in

500 conversations fits the €79 tier (sized for 500). The invoice is €79 whatever Fin-style resolution count you would have hit, seats are not a separate meter, and order lookups, return labels, and refunds work out of the box on Shopify and WooCommerce within your approval rules. Overage is never billed. As of July 2026, per nousu.chat/pricing.

Fin's resolution quality is real, and for SaaS-style support the per-resolution model can be fair. For a store that wants actions on real orders without an integration project, the trade rarely favors Intercom. We itemized the resolution model in Intercom Fin pricing explained.

The other side

Choose Intercom if

An alternatives page that never tells you to stay is an ad. These are the situations where Intercom is the right call.

  • Your support is closer to SaaS than to a store, with product questions and onboarding, not orders and returns.
  • Resolution quality is your top criterion and you want Fin specifically.
  • You have the engineering capacity to build Procedures against your store data.
  • You already run on Intercom for messaging and want to keep one platform.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best Intercom alternative for an ecommerce store?

Nousu (our product) is built for stores rather than SaaS. It executes order lookups, return labels, and refunds on Shopify and WooCommerce out of the box, for a flat €29 to €149 per month with no per-seat or per-resolution meter and no overage billing, as of July 2026 per nousu.chat/pricing. Intercom Fin is strong but needs integration work for those store actions and prices seats plus resolutions separately.

How does Nousu pricing compare to Intercom Fin's $0.99 per resolution?

Intercom charges $0.99 per resolution plus seats from $29 per seat per month, so the bill grows on two axes with volume and team size, as of July 2026 per intercom.com/pricing. Nousu charges a flat monthly price per tier with the conversation bundle included and overage never billed, so the invoice does not move with your resolution count.

Does Intercom Fin handle order status and refunds?

Fin can, once you build Procedures that connect it to your store systems. That is integration work you own. Nousu ships those store actions natively for Shopify and WooCommerce, so there is no plumbing to build before the agent can act on an order. As of July 2026.

Is Intercom worth it for a small store?

Rarely, unless your support already looks like SaaS support. The seat-plus-resolution model and the integration work to reach store actions add up for a team that mostly answers WISMO, returns, and cancellations. Run your volume through a calculator before committing, with prices as of July 2026.
