Best AI Chatbot for Ecommerce: 7 Tools Compared (2026) | Nousu

Comparison, updated July 19, 2026

The best AI chatbot for ecommerce in 2026 (7 tools, honestly compared)

By Ezra Klijnsma, founder of NousuNousu is one of the seven tools on this list. Read critically: every price carries a source, and every competitor entry says who should choose them over us.

Short answer

The best AI chatbot for ecommerce depends on one test: can it execute the refund, or only explain the refund policy? We compared seven tools on actions, platform coverage, and pricing model. Nousu (our product) is the flat-fee agent for Shopify and WooCommerce. Gorgias fits Shopify-first brands. Tidio fits small stores that only need answers.

How to judge these tools

Five criteria that matter for a store

Most comparison lists rank chat widgets on widget features. That misses the point. A store buys support automation to get work off its queue, and answering a question is the smallest part of that work. These are the criteria we scored against, in order of how much money each one moves.

1. Executes actions vs answers only

The single most useful test question for any vendor demo: can it process the refund, or only explain the refund policy? A tool that only explains leaves the actual work in your queue. Ask to see an action executed live, not an answer generated.

2. Platform coverage

Shopify and WooCommerce are rarely both first-class in the same product. Siena and Rep AI are Shopify-only. Gorgias, Intercom, and Zendesk lean Shopify or need integration work. Check that your platform gets real actions rather than only a widget.

3. Pricing model

Per seat, per ticket, per conversation, per resolution, or flat. The model matters more than the entry price: every metered model makes your busiest month your most expensive month. Run the math on your November volume, not your July volume.

4. Setup time

Some tools need a manually built knowledge base before they answer anything well. Others learn from the store itself: catalog, policies, order data. Ask what the first week looks like and who does that work.

5. Language quality

Test with your own customer messages in the languages your customers actually write in, including the badly spelled ones. Vendor demo questions are chosen to look good.

Every price below was checked on July 19, 2026 on the vendor pricing pages themselves, and the source sits next to each claim. Prices can differ per region and per moment; check them before you sign. Where a competitor is objectively stronger than Nousu, the entry says so, because otherwise this page is worthless.

The reviews

The 7 tools, one by one

1. Nousu

Our productFlat-fee AI agent

AI support agent for Shopify and WooCommerce stores. It answers customers and does the work: live order status, return handling, product recommendations, and a handoff to your team that carries the full context.

The disclosure first: Nousu is our product. Read this entry as a vendor talking about itself, then check the table below, where every claim carries a source you can click.

What separates Nousu from the answer-only tools is what happens after the question. Order status comes from live Shopify or WooCommerce data, not a link to a tracking page. Returns run through your store's return flow. When a customer reports a problem instead of asking a question, the agent can investigate it (on the Plus tier, in a controlled browser session) and hand the conversation to your team with the findings, the customer details, and a proposed next step attached.

WooCommerce gets the same treatment as Shopify. That matters because almost every serious agent in this list treats WooCommerce as an afterthought or skips it entirely.

The price is a flat €29, €79, or €149 per month, each sized with a conversation bundle. Going over a bundle never bills overage: a spike month costs the same as a slow one. If you are over your bundle every month, the next tier fits better.

Choose Nousu if
Shopify and WooCommerce stores that want customer questions resolved instead of answered, at a price that stays the same in November.
Choose something else if
Teams that mainly need a full omnichannel helpdesk with phone support, SLA workflows, and a CRM.

2. Gorgias

Helpdesk AI, billed per resolution

Established ecommerce helpdesk with deep Shopify integration and an AI Agent that is billed per resolved conversation on top of per-ticket helpdesk pricing.

In the Shopify ecosystem, Gorgias is a fixture. Order data sits next to the conversation, the app ecosystem is large, and the AI Agent ships on every plan and closes common questions on its own. Gorgias says it only bills the AI when it fully resolves a conversation, and that handoffs to humans are not charged twice (per gorgias.com/blog/ai-agent-pricing, July 2026).

Run the math on your own volume before you commit. Two meters run at once: helpdesk tickets over your bundle, and $0.90 to $1 per AI resolution on top. The better your automation performs and the better your sales month goes, the higher the invoice. WooCommerce is listed as supported, but the product and the roadmap are visibly Shopify-centric.

Choose them if
Shopify-first brands that want a complete helpdesk suite with a large app ecosystem and accept usage-based billing.
Choose something else if
WooCommerce stores, and stores that want a predictable support bill: the helpdesk meters tickets and the AI meters resolutions, at the same time.

3. Intercom (Fin)

Helpdesk AI, billed per resolution

Customer service platform whose Fin agent is one of the strongest general-purpose AI agents on the market, billed at $0.99 per resolution on top of seat pricing.

Credit where due: Fin is among the technically best AI agents you can buy right now. It resolves a large share of informational questions, its language quality is excellent, and Intercom only bills when Fin reaches an outcome ($0.99 each, per intercom.com/pricing, July 2026).

The catch for a store is that Intercom is built for software companies. Nothing ships ecommerce-native: order status, returns, and refunds all require workflow and integration work before Fin can touch them. And the bill has two components that grow independently, seats and resolutions. At 1,000 resolutions a month, Fin alone is about $990 before any seats.

Choose them if
SaaS and software companies, or teams with engineering capacity that want a top-tier general AI agent and will build the store integrations themselves.
Choose something else if
Ecommerce teams that want store actions out of the box: order lookups and returns require integration work, and seats plus resolutions stack up.

4. Zendesk AI

Helpdesk AI, billed per resolution

Mature helpdesk suite for larger support organizations. AI agents are billed per automated resolution, on top of per-agent seats and an optional per-agent Copilot add-on.

Zendesk is the tank among helpdesks. Routing, SLA management, reporting, integrations with almost everything: it is all there and it works. If your support organization counts dozens of people across several teams, it belongs on your shortlist.

For a store with two people on support, it is a lot of machinery. You pay per agent, the Copilot add-on costs extra per agent, and the AI agent bills per automated resolution at a rate Zendesk does not print on its public pricing page. Order status and returns run through marketplace apps or custom work, because Zendesk is broad rather than deep in ecommerce.

Choose them if
Larger organizations with multiple teams, complex routing, and SLA requirements that want AI inside an enterprise-grade suite.
Choose something else if
Small store teams: three meters (seats, Copilot per agent, AI resolutions) add up fast, and ecommerce depth comes from marketplace apps rather than the core product.

Suite Team $55 per agent per month (annual billing, US price list; UK list £45). Copilot add-on £40 (about $50) per agent per month. 5. Tidio (Lyro)

Widget-tier, billed per conversation

Accessible live chat tool with the Lyro AI add-on, billed per AI conversation. Works on both Shopify and WooCommerce.

Tidio is a fine starting point. Installation is quick, the entry price is low, and Lyro handles common questions in multiple languages. Native Shopify actions (like order lookups) are available on Growth plans and up, per Tidio's pricing page, July 2026. WooCommerce is supported through the WordPress plugin, which most agents in this list cannot say.

Know what you are buying, though. Lyro answers. Nothing in the published feature set covers processing a refund or changing an order. And because you pay per AI conversation, the low price holds only as long as things stay quiet.

Choose them if
Small stores that want live chat plus AI answers to frequent questions at the lowest possible entry price.
Choose something else if
Stores that want the AI to do things: Tidio's published feature set covers answers and some native Shopify lookups, not refunds or order changes.

The Lyro AI add-on starts at $32.50 per month for 50 AI conversations, which works out to roughly $0.65 per conversation at entry volume. On the free plan, Lyro's 50 conversations are a one-time total, not monthly. Prices in USD. Source: tidio.com/pricing

6. Siena AI

Enterprise agent, behind a sales call

Ecommerce-native AI agent with a strong reputation for brand voice, sold through a demo process with a $750 monthly platform fee plus a per-ticket rate.

Siena is what the enterprise end of this market looks like. It automates tickets end to end, its brand-voice quality gets praised consistently in reviews, and onboarding comes with expert help and dedicated Slack support (per siena.cx/pricing, July 2026).

The structure tells you who it is for. A $750 monthly platform fee before the first ticket, $0.90 per automated ticket on top, and a final quote you only get after a demo call. At 3,000 automated tickets a month that is $3,450 before discounts. Platform support centers on Shopify; third-party reviews list Shopify and Fulfil as the supported commerce platforms as of July 2026, so WooCommerce stores are out.

Choose them if
Larger Shopify brands with the ticket volume to justify a $750 base fee, that want an agent with managed onboarding and dedicated support.
Choose something else if
Small and mid-size stores (the platform fee alone exceeds most SMB support budgets), and any store on WooCommerce.

7. Rep AI

Widget-tier, billed per visitor

Sales-focused AI concierge for Shopify that guides shoppers toward purchase and answers support questions along the way. Priced by store traffic, not by conversations.

Rep AI answers a different question than the rest of this list. Its job is selling: greeting shoppers based on behavior, recommending products, and rescuing hesitant carts. Stores that use it primarily for conversion report real revenue from it.

As a support tool it is thin. The pricing meter is your traffic, so a marketing spike raises your bill even if nobody opens the chat. Executing support work (refunds, returns, order changes) is not what it is built for, and there is no WooCommerce version.

Choose them if
Shopify stores whose main goal is conversion and product guidance, with support answers as a bonus.
Choose something else if
Stores shopping for support automation: refunds and returns are out of scope, WooCommerce is not supported, and you pay for visitors whether or not they chat.

The market in four categories

Where each tool sits, and what that does to your invoice

Strip away the feature lists and this market has four shapes. Widget-tier bots answer questions and meter conversations or traffic. Helpdesk AI executes more but meters resolutions on top of base fees. Enterprise agents go deep and start at four figures. Nousu sits in a fourth category: an agent that executes, at a flat monthly price.

Costs

Watch the pricing model, not the entry price

The entry price tells you little. What you want to know is how the meter runs. Zendesk and Intercom bill per seat plus per AI resolution, Gorgias per ticket plus per resolution, Tidio per conversation, Rep AI per visitor. All of those models share one property: your busiest month is your most expensive month, and for a store that is exactly November and December. Nousu charges one flat monthly price per tier, and going over a tier's bundle never bills overage. Boring, and easy to budget.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between an ecommerce chatbot and an AI agent?

A chatbot searches a knowledge base and produces an answer. An AI agent can also execute work: look up the actual order, start a return, investigate a problem, or hand the conversation to your team with full context. For simple FAQs a chatbot is enough. Once customer questions require action, you need an agent.

Can an AI chatbot process refunds and returns on its own?

Only if it can execute actions in your store platform and you allow it to. Nousu handles returns through your Shopify flow within limits you set. Gorgias's AI Agent resolves conversations on Shopify. Siena automates tickets end to end. Widget-tier tools like Lyro and Rep AI answer questions and leave the execution to your team.

How much does an AI chatbot for ecommerce cost per month?

From free tiers to over $3,000 per month at volume. Vendor-published rates as of July 2026: Gorgias charges $0.90 per AI resolution plus per-ticket helpdesk fees, Intercom's Fin costs $0.99 per resolution plus seats, Siena starts at $750 per month plus $0.90 per ticket, and Nousu charges a flat €29 to €149 per month with no overage billing. The model matters more than the number: metered pricing peaks exactly when your sales do.

Which AI chatbot works with WooCommerce?

Fewer than you would expect. Nousu supports WooCommerce and Shopify with the same feature set. Tidio supports WooCommerce through its WordPress plugin, for answers and lookups. Gorgias, Intercom, and Zendesk connect to WooCommerce with limits or integration work. Siena and Rep AI do not support WooCommerce at all (as of July 2026).

What happens when the AI cannot resolve a question?

This is where tools differ most, so ask about it in every demo. The good ones hand the conversation to your team with everything already gathered. Nousu's handoff includes the customer question, the collected context, any findings from its investigation, and a proposed next step, delivered to your workspace, Slack, or SMS.
